When it comes to your weight loss journey and navigating menopause with the right hormones and exercise, I'm always thinking about what you need and want to hear. I listen to other podcasts or conversations so that I can glean valuable insights to share with you. My goal is to provide you with the keys to success, whether it's achieving weight loss or managing menopause symptoms.
Â
I often enjoy breaking down recent coaching experiences because they reflect how I coach and learn to make the best choices for my own health. The beauty of coaching lies in not just getting educated but in learning how to apply that knowledge effectively.Â
Â
By sharing my journey and those of my clients, I hope to offer practical tips that you can easily incorporate into your life.
Â
Today, I want to talk about a topic many of us grapple with: why is it so hard to lose weight in menopause. Let's dive into this challenge...
Â
Â
Let's go ahead and address the elephant in the room and give you the master key on how to lose weight and keep it off: commitment.
Â
It's a commitment to yourself, not to the scale, because the number one thing that keeps women from attaining their goals is that they quit.
Â
I'm going to be talking about something that I see happening with the majority of the clients that I work with. And I've had some run-ins with this particular topic myself, and it really is about commitment. Now, there are a lot of other factors that play into weight loss, so we can't just rely on commitment alone without understanding those factors.
Â
Even if you are committed, and maybe, just maybe, it's still not working, when you were committed, you stayed until the end and figured it out. When you're not truly committed, you quit, and then you end up backtracking. Maybe you'll start...

I am so excited to introduce you to Debbie Martin, a friend and fellow Trim Healthy coach.
Â
She is here today to talk to us about her Trim Healthy and weight loss journey after 50 and with insulin resistance. Â
Â
I can't wait to get to all of the good things. First, Debbie will tell us how she stumbled onto the Trim Healthy Way. Â
Â
"My name is Debbie Martin. I'm 50 years old. I turned 50 last year and feel so good about it. I am so excited about being 50. I am a mom of five kids. They're not kids anymore; they're all grown, and I've been a wife for 30 years.
Â
I have had trouble with my weight throughout my whole life, and I came across trim healthy way back; I don't remember the exact year, but it was early. I didn't stick with it because I stalled and tried other things, came back to trim healthy, and didn't stick with it again because I stalled and thought, you know, there were other thin...

Â
There's a ton of factors contributing to this frustration, and it's important to understand what’s going on. The main culprits behind the challenge of weight loss after 40 come from various sources.Â
Firstly, our metabolism undergoes changes as we age, impacting how efficiently our bodies burn calories. Additionally, hormonal fluctuations, including the decline in hormones like estrogen, directly influence our metabolism and can lead to insulin resistance and fat accumulation. Lifestyle habits also play a significant role, with factors such as inadequate sleep, dehydration, and unmanaged stress all contributing to slower weight loss.Â
Â
Despite these challenges, it's important to remember that successful weight loss after 40 is achievable.

I hate to be a bearer of bad news, but as a trainer and coach for many years...

Â
Let’s talk about motivation…
Â
Â
I like to look at motivation as something I can create with my thoughts.Â
Â
It would be great if we all felt motivated to do the things we know are good for us and will bring better health. Sadly, this is not how life works. But, by shifting away from how you feel and into creating motivation with your thoughts, you will be much more effective at reaching your health and weight loss goals.
How do you take action even when you don’t FEEL motivated?
Â
When I am looking at whatever action I want to take, whether it's to work out with my weights, go for a walk, work on a project that I'm not super excited about, or make dinner, if I’m waiting for the feeling of motivation before I begin, it keeps me in a space of procrastination.
Â
So, I like to look at that feeling of mo...

Has sleep been your friend or foe since you hit your perimenopause and menopause years? Maybe you’ve struggled since childhood, or maybe this is a whole new symptom that is messing with you.
Â
I wish I had a magic pill that would give you a solid eight hours every night—shoot, if I did, I’d be the first in line to swallow it! But while you may not find answers right away, there are reasons why you need to keep trying to get more sleep in midlife and ways to support your body during this time.
Â
Sleep can hold the key to not only feeling rejuvenated but also to weight management, hormonal balance, and overall well-being.
Midlife introduces many challenges, including sleep, which is primarily driven by hormonal changes. As estrogen levels decline, sleep disturbances become more prevalent, leading to midnight awakenings, racing thoughts, and hormonal imbalances.

Cortisol spikes and blood...
Â
One of the most common frustrations I hear from my fellow Trim Healthy Mamas in midlife is the increase in fat around their waist.
Â
Today, I want to share the top 5 foods you can use in your everyday routine that are simple and effective at burning fat and creating an optimal environment for a better, healthier, and faster metabolism.Â
But first, let's debunk a common myth right off the bat: you can't spot-reduce belly fat with endless crunches or planks.Â
Â
Â
We can target fat loss through smart food choices, exercise, and lifestyle tweaks.
Â
Our goal? Turning our bodies into fat-burning powerhouses.
First up on our fat-burning food list is apple cider vinegar (ACV). Packed with acetic acid, ACV supports digestion and helps regulate blood sugar levels. By incorporating ACV into your routine, you can potentially reduce belly fat and support overall wellne...

I'm going to discuss the importance of building muscle as we age and its relationship to fat loss, overall metabolic health, and longevity.
I've been a personal trainer for over 30 years, and back in the day, there wasn't much emphasis on women and building muscle. There were guidelines, but it wasn't until I became certified as a menopause fitness specialist and discovered the newer science for women in midlife and beyond that I understood how important, if not the most important, things we can be doing.
What I'm learning about muscle is that it is our longevity organ. When we start focusing on building muscle rather than losing weight, fat loss will happen.
Notice I'm not saying weight loss because we lose part muscle and part fat when we lose weight. Diets that are quick fixes or calorie deficit cause massive muscle loss touted as weight loss, and that, my friend, for women in midlif...

Back in December, I ended up having a root canal that was reworked. They had to take the tooth out they had to clean out the root canal; there was an abscess, there was bacteria, and I ended up getting an implant. That took my system way down. I was on antibiotics for over a month, came into c...

Are you a woman over 40 struggling with sugar cravings during menopause?Â
You're not alone.Â
Many women in this stage of life find themselves battling cravings, weight gain, and frustration with slow progress.Â
But don’t get discouraged. In this post, we will explore game-changing strategies to help you gain better control over your eating habits and conquer those sugar cravings once and for all.
Menopause brings hormonal changes that mess with your body; these changes may cause increased sugar cravings and less willpower.Â
They are often a result of your brain seeking a dopamine hit, which highly processed foods provide. The dopamine hit isn’t bad, and you can get it by eating fruits or walking.Â
