If you’ve been gaining weight in perimenopause—especially around your belly—even though you're eating healthy and trying to stay on plan… I want you to know: you are not crazy and you are not alone.
This season of life can feel like a curveball. What used to work just isn’t cutting it anymore.
You’re doing Trim Healthy Mama, watching your carbs, maybe even exercising more… but the scale? Stuck. Or worse, creeping up.
Let’s talk about why that’s happening—and most importantly, what you can do about it.
Â
If it feels like your body hit the brakes on fat loss after 40, it’s not your imagination. Perimenopause brings big hormonal shifts—estrogen drops, cortisol climbs, insulin resistance creeps in, and your metabolism doesn’t hum along like it used to.
The good news?
With the right plan and a few strategic shifts, you can absolutely get your body back into a fat-burning rhythm—without punishing workouts or restr...

Let’s just get honest, friend.
You’re eating on plan. You’re trying to move your body. You’re skipping sugar (most days). But that stubborn belly fat in menopause won’t budge. You keep thinking, “I should be further along by now.”
I see it all the time as a Trim Healthy coach for midlife women. And I’ve lived it myself. That’s why I had to share this with you—because I’ve discovered a whole new way to approach weight loss in perimenopause and menopause.
It’s not about pushing harder.
It’s about surrender.
Yep. That big ol’ faith word we like to use in church, but don’t always know how to apply when the scale won’t move or we’re crying over jeans that don’t fit.
This blog post is a heart-to-heart from one midlife woman to another. It’s what I wish someone would have told me sooner.
In our younger years, striving often worked.
We could cut ca...

Welcome to The Menopause Makeover—where we talk Trim Healthy Wisdom, hormones, fitness, and real-life wins (and struggles) in midlife. Let's look at the five sneaky reasons your weight won’t budge—even when you're eating healthy, exercising, and doing “all the right things.”
If you’re a midlife mama who feels like your belly fat has a mind of its own, you're not crazy—and you're definitely not alone.
Let’s get into it.
Â
You’re not broken—your body is just different now. In perimenopause and menopause, everything from your muscle mass to your metabolism is shifting. But here’s the real kicker:
It’s not your hormones causing fat gain.
Hormones are symptoms of deeper imbalances. When estrogen declines, cortisol rises, and insulin gets cranky, your body starts shifting fat to your belly and holding onto weight like it’s prepping for winter.
And what used to work… doesn’t.
Â
Â
Â
If you’ve ever stared at the scale and thought, “What in the world happened to me? I used to be able to drop 10 pounds in two weeks. Why won’t it budge now?”—I want you to know: you are absolutely not alone. And you’re definitely not broken. You’re not lazy. You’re not destined for a lifetime of tight jeans and stubborn belly fat.
You’ve just been following weight loss advice that wasn’t designed for your stage of life. Midlife, perimenopause, and menopause are a totally different ballgame. It’s time to stop beating yourself up and start understanding what your body is asking for. Let’s get into why your go-to plan isn’t working anymore—and what to do instead.

Let’s be real: I’m right there with you. B...

If you’re in your 40s, 50s, or 60s, you might be wondering: “Is it just me, or has my body switched the playbook?” The reality is, menopause really does change the rules when it comes to food, weight loss, and how our bodies handle blood sugar and fat storage. You might be doing “all the right things,” eating healthy, moving your body, and STILL seeing the scale go up—especially around the belly. If that sounds familiar, let me just say: you are NOT alone. In fact, you’re in very good company.
This new season comes with its own set of challenges. Our hormones shift, our metabolism slows down, and suddenly the tried-and-true diets from our 30s and 40s just don’t cut it anymore. It can feel discouraging and downright confusing! But here’s the good news—there is hope, and ...
Â
If you’ve been doing “all the right things” but still feel stuck… If you’ve looked in the mirror and thought, “I don’t even recognize myself anymore…” If your motivation is MIA and the scale isn’t budging no matter how “on plan” you stay…
You’re not alone—and you’re not doing anything wrong.
You’re in a season that requires a different kind of support. Not just for your body, but for your mind.
Today we’re tackling something that might be the missing piece in your weight loss journey.
Â
Midlife isn’t just a shift in hormones—it’s a shift in identity, energy, and how your body responds to the things that used to work.
This is the exact season I found myself in years ago. The weight was creeping up, my energy was tanking, and even though I was trying to stay “on plan,” nothing seemed to be changing.
What finally helped?
It wasn’t another diet....
Â
Are you struggling with menopause weight gain and stubborn belly fat?Â
As hormones shift in perimenopause, it can feel impossible to lose weight—but it doesn’t have to be that way.
Today, I’m sharing an inspiring conversation with my client, Colleen, who joined my Blast the Belly Fat Bootcamp and transformed her health. She lost 15 pounds, reduced her menopause belly fat, and, more importantly, regained her energy and confidence—all while homeschooling and welcoming a new grandbaby!
Â
Colleen had been considering working with a coach for 8 to 10 years but never made the leap. Like so many midlife women, she was trying to figure things out on her own, but menopause weight gain and lack of accountability made it challenging.
Her biggest challenge? Staying consistent. Her family wasn’t on board with her weight loss efforts, and she fel...
If you've been struggling with unexplained weight gain, stubborn belly fat, and the frustration of doing everything right but still not seeing results, Barb's story is going to inspire you.
At 58 years old, Barb had been following Trim Healthy Mama (THM) for over a decade. It had completely transformed her health, helping her lose 40 pounds and keep it off for years. But when menopause hit, the weight started creeping back on. Sound familiar? No matter how closely she followed THM, she found herself gaining weight, feeling discouraged, and unsure of what to do next.
Â
Barb's story is one I hear all the time from women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond. You’ve been eating well, staying active, and following the principles of THM, but your body is no longer responding the way it used to.Â
Here’s what Barb experienced:

If you're a woman in midlife struggling with excess weight, particularly that stubborn belly fat, you're not alone. Maybe you've tried every diet under the sun, followed all the "expert" advice, and yet nothing seems to work the way it used to. I get it.
There is so much diet noise out there—one expert says cut carbs, another says eat all the fat, and someone else swears by intermittent fasting. But what actually works for midlife women? What will help you lose weight without wrecking your metabolism or hormones in the process? Let's break it down.
Â
You might have lost weight easily in your 20s and 30s with extreme diets—low-fat, keto, fasting, whatever the trend was at the time. But now? Your body has changed, and so has what it needs.
Here’s why extreme diets backfire in midlife:
You’re not alone.
For many women, what worked in their 30s and early 40s just doesn’t cut it anymore.
If you’re in midlife and struggling with weight gain or slow weight loss, let’s talk about why it happens and, more importantly, what you can do to turn things around.
One of the biggest reasons weight loss feels harder in menopause is the decline of estrogen. Lower estrogen levels directly impact how and where your body stores fat, particularly in the abdominal area.
Estrogen also plays a role in regulating insulin sensitivity. As it declines, blood sugar levels fluctuate more easily, leading to increased fat storage. Add rising cortisol levels from stress, and it’s no wonder your body feels out of balance.
Starting in your 40s, you naturally lose muscle mass if you’re not actively maintaining it. Since muscle is...
