The Frustration of “Doing Everything Right”

If you’re in perimenopause or menopause, you probably know the feeling. You’re following the Trim Healthy plan, you’re eating the recipes, you’re even getting your steps in—and yet the belly fat keeps creeping up. The scale doesn’t budge. Your energy dips, your clothes feel tighter, and you start asking yourself, what in the world is happening to my body?

This is exactly what my client Cindy was experiencing. She had been trying for years to make it all work on her own. She read the Trim Healthy books, bought the ingredients, and gave it her best effort. But in midlife, the puzzle pieces just didn’t fit the way they used to. She came to me saying, “I feel like I’m doing everything right, but my body isn’t cooperating.”

Friend, if that sounds like you, I want you to know—you’re not lazy, you’re not broken, and you’re not behind. What’s really keeping you from losing weight in menopause isn’t a lack of discipline. It’s that midlife brings a brand-new set of rules for your body, hormones, and mindset. And God cares about all of it—even your pantry, your plate, and your health journey.

Why Menopause Changes the Game

Here’s the hard truth: menopause changes everything. Hormone imbalance in midlife can affect everything from your metabolism to your mood to the way your body stores fat. Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone levels drop, which means:

  • You naturally lose muscle mass faster
  • Your recovery from exercise takes longer
  • Your body becomes more sensitive to stress, sugar, and sleep loss

Add to that the reality of juggling work, family, and maybe even caring for parents or grandkids, and you’re running on empty. Cindy described it as “too many puzzle pieces that weren’t lining up.” She was doing all the right things, but her hormones, lifestyle, and mindset were pulling in different directions.

But here’s where faith enters the picture: God is in the details. He designed your body. He understands your shifting hormones, your low energy, and your discouragement. And He is not shaming you for where you are. Instead, He offers wisdom and strength for the exact season you’re walking through.

The Mindset Shift That Unlocks Weight Loss

One of the biggest breakthroughs for Cindy was realizing weight loss in menopause isn’t just physical—it’s mental, emotional, and spiritual, too. She said, “I was ready for transformation, not just information.”

So many women try to white-knuckle their way through this season. More dieting. More exercise. More restriction. But menopause belly fat doesn’t respond to punishment. In fact, that approach often backfires—raising cortisol, triggering cravings, and slowing your metabolism even more.

The mindset shift is this: move from striving to stewarding. Stewardship is about grace over guilt. It’s about making nourishing choices because your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, not because you need to earn worth through a smaller size.

Cindy said every week she felt more like herself again—inside and out—because she stopped hustling for results and started trusting the process. And most importantly, she trusted God in the process.

Why Hormone Support and Coaching Matter

Another piece that kept Cindy stuck was not knowing how to adapt Trim Healthy for her unique body in this season. She had been on bioidentical hormones for awhile, but still had rashes, back pain, and low energy. Hormone support is powerful, but it doesn’t work in a vacuum.

You need structure, support, and accountability to bring it all together. Cindy found that through coaching, Thrive Tribe menus, and strength training adjustments that worked with her back instead of against it. She described it this way: “The pieces of the puzzle were all there, but I couldn’t put them together. Coaching helped me fit it all.”

And once those pieces aligned? She lost over 10 pounds, dropped inches, regained energy, and rebuilt her confidence. More importantly, she felt peaceful, empowered, and back in control of her food choices.

In her words: “The weight loss was a bonus. The healing and clarity I received are priceless. I got my energy back. I felt in control of my food choices. My mindset shifted from striving to stewarding.”

That’s what happens when faith and health work hand-in-hand—you gain peace in the process, not just results on the scale.

What Might Be Keeping You Stuck

So what’s really keeping you from losing weight in menopause? It’s rarely just one thing. More often, it’s a combination of:

  • Hormone imbalance that changes how your body burns and stores fat
  • Muscle loss and slower recovery that make workouts feel harder
  • Stress and inflammation that trigger cravings and belly fat storage
  • A perfection mindset that leads to shame instead of consistency
  • Lack of structure and accountability to put the pieces together
  • Forgetting that God cares deeply about your health and wants to strengthen you

And here’s the encouragement Cindy shared: “Every woman deserves to feel good in your own skin and strong in your body, not because of the number, but because of the purpose God placed inside of you. If I can feel this good at this stage in my life, so can any woman. It just starts with one step, then another, and it’s always grace over guilt.”

If you’re in menopause or perimenopause and feel like your body isn’t playing fair, hear this: you’re not failing. Your body is asking for a different approach. Trim Healthy still works in midlife—but only when you pair it with mindset shifts, hormone support, and muscle-building movement that matches this season.

And above all, remember this: your health journey isn’t just about weight loss. It’s about honoring God with your body, stewarding your energy so you can show up for your calling, and receiving His grace in the process.

Cindy said it beautifully: “You’re not alone. You’re not broken. You’re not behind. God is in the details.”
